We dodged a (Palin) bullet

If McCain has won, We could have had a VP that made Dan Quayle look like a Rhodes Scholar. I don't want to be jumping on the "America you did the right thing" bandwagon, since all we did was vote for a president, but I'm soooo relieved Palin is nowhere near the White House. I hope this puts a fork in the Republicans party pandering to Social Conservative extremists, although I seriously doubt it.

Palin Didn't Know Africa Is A Continent, Says Fox News Reporter (VIDEO)

According to Fox News Chief Political Correspondent Carl Cameron, there was great concern within the McCain campaign that Palin lacked "a degree of knowledgeability necessary to be a running mate, a vice president, a heartbeat away from the presidency," in part because she didn't know which countries were in NAFTA, and she "didn't understand that Africa was a continent, rather than a series, a country just in itself.

Conservatives eating one of their own?

Go read Christopher Buckley's explanation of his NR resigation - its a fascinating look at how one conservative thinks of the "modern conservative movement."  The latter now apparently means, think as we tell you to think, and disloyalty must not be tolerated.  A lot of people are realizing that the current Republican leadereship, with its concentration of executive power, expansion of government spending, and theocratic totalitarian tendencies is not what used to be called the "Republican Party" just a few decades ago.

Would you vote for a creationist VP?

As if there was any chance left that I'd vote for McCain this fall, this pretty much seals it. BTW, Comedy Central last Thursday had a great movie about candidate McCain. Yeah, I'm a few days behind on that, but life is hectic with a kid. Its actually kind of nice - practically the only time TV is on is for a soccer game.

Gas Tax Holiday a vote-buying sham

Both Clinton and McCain's call for a gas tax holiday would make a neglible impact on your wallet and is nothing more than an election year stunt to win votes.

It worked so well, we had to stop...

City planners aren't very smart sometimes, or at least, don't fully grasp the concepts of cause and effect...
Dallas had anticipated an annual $14.8 million for red-light-running fines, money essential to keeping the cameras running — before people stopped running lights and reduced violations more than 50 percent at some locations.

Explaining why health insurance companies should compete

Posted here because I couldn't do a good job explaining this at dinner last night: Why is competition between health insurance companies useful?

This is not the world we live in, but it is the world we should aim for and I am more than willing to consider how government might get us there.

Hillary using Bush style "Town Halls"

Next Up for the Democrats: Civil War

It wasn’t an accurate statement, historical or otherwise. It was a lie, and a bigoted lie at that, given that it branded Hispanics, a group as heterogeneous as any other, as monolithic racists.

Reason 457 Why I'm not voting for Hillary

She's willing to garnish people's wages if they refuse to buy health insurance even though they can afford it. Hmm, i thought the government would coerce us into a socialized health care system by raising taxes to cover the cost.

Defaming Milton Friedman: Naomi Klein's disastrous yet popular polemic against the great free market economist - Reason Magazine

In the future, if you tell a student or a journalist that you favor free markets and limited government, there is a risk that they will ask you why you support dictatorships, torture, and corporate welfare. The reason for the confusion will be Naomi Klein's book The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism.
